Can a Mac run Windows and Microsoft Office?

Yes. Many of our customers have MACs that run Windows and use Microsoft Office.  Microsoft office is available for the Mac, and Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files created on a Mac are compatible with Windows.  Many other popular applications are available for the Mac.  But if you need to use a particular Windows-only application, you have a few options: Boot Camp is packaged with every new Mac.  With this software, you can run Windows as if your Mac were a PC.  If you need to run Mac OS X and Windows together, purchase Parallels Desktop for Mac or VMware Fusion.  Install either of these applications, along with your Windows Installation CDs.  No need to restart… you will be able to run Windows programs right next to your Mac applications.

How often should my computer be cleaned?

Depending on our environment, your computer should be cleaned at least once every 6-12 months.   If you have a pet, or if your computer is exposed to smoke or lots of dust, you will want to clean your computer more often.  Following is a listing of general tips for cleaning any computer components or peripherals.

• Turn off the computer before cleaning. Never spray any liquid directly onto any computer component. Spray the liquid onto a cloth and use that cloth to clean the component.
• Use a vacuum to clean dirt, dust, or hair around the outside of the computer case. However, do not use a vacuum for the inside of your computer.  Vacuuming inside of the computer generates static electricity that can damage the components of your computer. If you need to use a vacuum, try a portable battery powered vacuum or use compressed air.
• We recommend bringing your computer in for professional cleaning at least once a year to keep your computer in top condition.  This is also a great time to clean the computer of spyware, and make any adjustments to help your computer run at optimal speeds.

What is Bluetooth?

Wi-Fi enabled computers utilize a local wireless modem for connection to the internet and email instead of relying on traditional cabled network systems to be connected. This allows laptop users to always be connected to a network without the need to be physically docked or plugged in for access. Many office setting today have replaced traditional cabled network systems with Wi-Fi. A Wi-Fi network can also be set up at home enabling laptop users to be connected from anywhere in their home.

My computer is running slow. What can I do?

The first thing to do is to figure out WHY your computer is running slow.  Following are some possible causes:

• Not enough hard disk space
• Unused programs or bad files
• Corrupt OS
• Bad Hardware
• Corrupt data
• Failure to add Windows updates
• Outdated drivers.
• Computer is overheating

What we routinely discover with many customers is that their computer is just too old.  As technology advances, older computers simply cannot keep up.  It’s important to add additional memory to your computer or a consider replacing a computer that is more than 5 years old. 

Should I buy a Wi-Fi enabled laptop? What are the benefits?

Wi-Fi enabled computers utilize a wireless modem to connect to the internet instead of relying on traditional cabled network systems to be connected. With Wi-Fi, you can always be connected to a network wirelessly without the need to be physically plugged in. Wi-Fi is a great solution for offices and home settings, allowing laptop users to be connected from anywhere in their home or office.

Should buy a desktop computer or a laptop computer?

Desktop Computers are ideal for the person who has no need for portability, requires the power of a desktop that a laptop cannot match or simply needs a less expensive computing solution. Desktops are also great for gamers or people who require a large display. Laptops offer complete portability, but lack some of the power of desktop computers. Laptops usually only have a 3-5 year lifespan before they need work. If you accidentally drop your laptop, you can do serious damage to it. Additionally, if one part of your laptop breaks, the entire unit will need to be sent for repair.
